DSU is a non-profit youth development organization, providing big world experiences to Duxbury youth through innovative and highly engaging after school programs and special events to expand their skills, relationships, and experiences.

Job Description: 

DSU’s Program Manager  is responsible for creating, driving & executing innovative and engaging programming, special events and camp days and broadening community awareness through communications. The Program Manager brainstorms, implements and executes multiple events and initiatives, in addition to the After School Program. The Program Manager is a self-starter, where no two days are the same and enjoys switching between indoor and outdoor activities with a commitment to academics, and developing life skills.  They are also quick on their feet and can get staff Early Education and Care (EEC) compliant within 30 days. Volunteer experience is highly desirable when engaging youth to do the same.

Program responsibilities:

  • Inspire a culture of community, fun, and accountability while supervising and providing hands-on assistance to participants during after school hours, events and camps.
  • Brainstorm, develop and communicate innovative and salient curriculums and activities with all staff maintaining monthly and quarterly curriculum calendars, using tools for Social Emotional Learning and life skills.
  • Manage daily attendance records and communicate any issues with school, parents & staff.
  • Hold students accountable for good choices with clear expectations and consequences to ensure a mutually safe environment for all students, and staff.
  • Review and constantly adhere to EEC guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Complete daily planning of programming, end of day procedures and duties as assigned.
  • Work with the Assistant Director and Executive Director to promote upcoming activities and events through posters, press releases, newsletters, websites, and social media.
  • Provide spontaneous programming in the event of weather or adverse conditions.
  • Manage purchase of supplies needed including food, crafts etc.
  • Wrap-up past events – with photos, recaps and supervise thank you notes with students
  • Prepare annual progress reports for all students and implement strategies to improve student success in academic, social and physical endeavors.
  • Manage incident reports and debrief any behavior that does not align with our code of conduct.

Skills required:

  • Teach – Ability to teach activities in small and large groups – 3rd grade through 8th grade (academics, sports, creative arts, outdoor pursuits, music, etc.
  • Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Speaking — Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Critical Thinking & Planning — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Writing — Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the DSU community via social media and newsletters. Working knowledge of Google workspace, Canva and Apps.
  • Complex Problem Solving — Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Qualifications required:

  • Four year college degree is essential. Teaching license/certification preferred.
  • Pay commensurate with experience, starting at $22 per hour.
  • 3-5 years experience in education or youth development
  • Collaborative/innovative spirit, team player, flexible to a range of diverse activities
  • Effective management skills
  • CPR & First Aid certified.  Must Pass Background Records Check, including COR, SORI, and fingerprinting and mandatory EEC Training prior to employment in youth development.

Job Type: 

  • This position is in-person, Monday through Friday, 12:15 pm till 5:15 pm starting August 23rd 2024. Schedule adjusted for camp (min 1 day per month plus school vacations). 3-5 evenings throughout the year.
  • 25-30 hours per week, 10-month position. Summer hours available with implementation of summer camp and other activities.

Physical Effort
An  employee must be able to perform medium work to perform the essential functions of the job.  Medium work is defined as being able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.

To perform the essential functions of the job, an employee must frequently be able to do the following physical activities:  climbing (for example, stairs). balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, feeling, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.  In addition, a person in this job must be able to crawl and push and pull objects occasionally.  Also, a person in this job must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.

In general, an employee in this job works in a professional setting.  However, occasionally an employee may be exposed to working in an environment that does not provide protection from temperature changes such as performing some activities outside. In addition, the employee may occasionally be exposed to enough noise to cause an employee in this job to shout in order to be heard about ambient noise level, such as in a classroom full of children.
