Duxbury Safe Water Committee

Position: Research and Communications Volunteer
Interested in making a difference and ensuring the safety of Duxbury’s public water supply? Founded in 2021, the Duxbury Safe Water Committee, Inc. is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the health, safety, and welfare of residents living in the Town of Duxbury and other municipalities in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by ensuring the safety and reliability of the public drinking water supply.
The Committee is in search of a volunteer to perform the following:
- Scan and categorize historical water records into an online database to track causes of water contamination and mitigation measures taken by the Town;
- Update the Committee’s website and linked social media platforms with information relating to of the status of the Town’s efforts to address contaminated water wells and clean-up efforts of the private dump site commonly referred to as the “McNeil Dump;”
- Compile email database of interested residents for our e-newsletter and push out newsletters;
- Attend monthly status meetings of the Committee, which are held the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Duxbury Senior Center.
This volunteer position is a great opportunity for students who are interested in environmental science and the sustainability of a critical natural resource to gain practical knowledge about clean-up efforts and civic responsibility. This is also an opportunity to secure volunteer hours for students interested in applying to/fulfilling obligations on National Honor Society. Experience on the Committee will prove to be not only a great resume builder, but it will also yield the satisfaction of knowing that you are making a difference in the betterment of our Town.
