Position: General Counselor
Day Camp Counselor

Our programming helps campers grow through swimming, sports, crafts, performing arts, adventure activities, and more. Becoming a CWDC team member adds depth and experience for those interested in youth development, education, outdoor recreation, social work, leadership, and many additional career paths.
A Counselor oversees a group of the camp’s youth (in the range of K-8th grade). The person in this role is responsible for:
- Attending training (before camp)
- Leading a group through a daily schedule of arts, sports, adventure, and water activities
- Partnering with a co-counselor as mentors to youth
- Working with supervisory staff on adding creative “twists” to programming
- Working with supervisory staff to manage camper behavioral concerns
- Supporting the CWDC Leadership Team with space oversight, camper management, welcome/departure presence, transition supervision, etc.
Details:
- Stipend: $350 per week; eligible for $450 bonus for completed full-summer commitment
- Dates: June 17, 2024, to August 16, 2024
- Minimum Age: 18
- Experience: Background at camp or working with youth (desired, not required)
Essential Functions:
The essential functions for a camp counselor include the ability to support the physical/ social/emotional needs of youth aged 5-13 as well as work collaboratively with all members of staff. This person must be able to provide activity instruction to campers, work with peers to do the same, and foster a safe learning environment across a large camp site. This person should expect minimal use of personal technology during working hours. Visual and auditory abilities to identify and respond to environmental hazards at activities are required. A counselor must possess the endurance required to maintain full-day outdoor supervision of young people. Exceptional communication, leadership and collaboration skills are ideal.
